In July of 1999, Johnny Upshaw
drew three of these "sand aliens" in the sands of southwestern
Oregon. One was on the banks of the Rogue River, and would last till the
first hard rain. The other two were by the ocean, below the high tide
line, and were designed to live only until the pull of the moon brought
the water over them.
Whether anyone saw any of them was left to fate. This one, the best of
the three, was at a very secluded beach, accessible only by trail.
Fortunately Grandpa Dick was there to capture it on film.
